This is a difficult fight to find and win but offers a large sum of runes and the ability to craft Mohg's weapon. Mohg can control the battlefield with magic focusing on fire and blood and can make short work of players who are not prepared. While this boss fight can seem daunting, this guide will help make it much more bearable.

How To Prepare

Player Obtaining Mohg's Shackle

It is recommended players be at least around level 100 for this fight. Mohg takes equal amounts of damage from all physical damage types, with only minimal resistance to each. Mohg is a good bit more resistant to all magic types, being the most resistant and taking only minor damage from fire. While fighting Mohg in melee is risky, this will do the most damage to him.

Mohgs' attacks usually deal fire and physical damage, along with building up the player's bleed stat. It's best to bring armor or items that lower fire damage and items that cure bleed build-up. It is also highly recommended players find Mohg's shackle just before the Lyndell Catacombs site of grace in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, as this can briefly stun the boss up to two times during his first phase. While it is possible to beat the boss without the shackle, it will significantly help in the first phase and have you use fewer flasks. Also, Mohg's lowest resistance is to bleed despite being the Lord of Blood, making this status effect most useful when fighting him.

How To Beat Mohg

Mohg's Second Phase With Wings Flying

Mohg has many attacks that affect a large range and deal high amounts of damage. His first phase has him slightly weaker and attacking slower, using his shackle up to two times; try to burst through the first half of his health quickly, as you'll need many flasks to get through his second phase. Many of Mohg's attacks have two parts, with the initial attack followed up by an explosion. After dodging out of the way of the first attack, do a second dodge to get behind Mohg and begin attacking from there. Many of Mohg's attacks happen right in front of him and have a long range, making fighting behind him your safest option.

Once Mohg has reached half health, he will perform the blood ritual, which can not be dodged. This will be three attacks on the player no matter where you are in the arena, dealing damage, interrupting an action, and causing bleed build-up. During this ritual, there is just enough time to either heal or use an item to cure the bleed build-up. There is only a bit of time before each hit from this ritual, and healing must be timed perfectly. During his second phase, Mohg will use more fire and sprout wings to allow him to move faster, with quicker attack patterns.

While most of his attacks are similar, they now deal extra fire damage and bleed effects. Mohg will now be able to leave lava pools on the map that will damage the player. The arena is a decent size, and after a few lava pools have been spawned, it leads Mohg to the other side of the map to fight until the previous side has cleared up of lava. Mohg will often use his strafe flying attack, which is mostly easy to dodge by dodging to either one side or the other.
