There are a million ways to go about creating your character build. With weapons of all sorts, Incantations that can decimate or support, and a ton of unique armor sets, there’s seemingly no lack of options when it comes to how you play Elden Ring.
If you have stumbled upon the Godskin bosses in the Lands Between, you may have noticed that their magic is a little different from most others you’ll come across on your journey. They use black flames as their incantations of choice, which has different effects from other fire spells used by spellcasters. Like every other spell used by foes in the game, you can also wield black flame Incantations.
Where To Find The Black Flame Incantation
First things first, there are six Black Flame style Incantations in Elden Ring, but there is one specifically called “Black Flame.” All these spells are boosted by The Godslayer's Seal, which is conveniently located next to the Godskin Prayerbook needed to obtain the Black Flame Incantation.
In order to find the Incantation:
- Travel to the Rampart Tower Site of Grace at Stormveil Castle.
- Head Northeast out of the room and jump down on the roof ahead of you.
- Hop down onto the raised platform below and jump one more time to the ground, where there will be a door that leads underneath the building you were standing on.
- Follow the staircase down to the end of the hall, and you will be stopped by an Imp Statue that requires a Stonesword Key.
- Use a Stonesword Key to gain access; inside, you will be met by some wolves.
- Defeat the wolves and open the two chests that are inside. One will contain the Godslayer's Seal, and the other will have the Godskin Prayerbook.
Congratulations, you’ve done 99% of the work! All that’s left is to bring the book to any Incantation vendor. You can find one at the Church of Vows with the name Miriel, Pastor of Vows. He takes the form of a gigantic turtle with a crown on his head, so it is impossible to miss him. Give him the book, and you will now be able to purchase the Black Flame Incantation along with the Black Flame Blade Incantation.
Effects Of The Black Flame Incantation
With the Black Flame and Black Flame Blade Incantation, you are one-third of the way to obtaining all the Incantations for the Black Flame build. But what’s so special about Black Flame?
Black Flame attacks will decimate your enemies by dealing percentage-based damage rather than a base number. For obvious reasons, this is extremely useful, especially when going up against powerful enemies, as your damage will always maintain the same ratio no matter who you’re up against.
The Black Flame Incantation requires 20 Faith and allows the player to throw a ball of Black Flame at enemies that does initial damage on impact and HP burn after landing an attack on your foe. Note that although you can’t change the amount of damage that the HP burn does, you can use any items or spells that increase fire damage to increase the initial burst of all Black Flame Attacks, as they also increase Black Flame damage. In addition, you can charge up the spell to ignite an explosion radius that will also do more damage on its initial burst.
