In a clip of an unexpected enemy attack, Elden Ring player and streamer Joseph Dominguez learned just how brutal - and clever - FromSoftware enemies can be.

At this point, everyone knows what to expect from a FromSoftware game - punishing environments, incredible enemy designs, and overwhelmingly powerful enemies. Their latest release, Elden Ring, is of course no different.

Though, even with the clear expectation of difficult battles, FromSoftware still finds a way to surprise their players - sometimes in the most ruthless ways. This time, one player unfortunately learned this the hard way, dying in a clip to an unexpected mid-air combo.

ELDEN RING ENEMIES AND SURPRISING MID-AIR ATTACKS

In the midst of foggy fields and oppressive masonry, Elden Ring player and streamer Joseph Dominguez tried to escape from an enemy. Fleeing from what looks to be an Alabaster Lord, a tall creature with offensive sorcery and a curved sword, Dominguez sought refuge on a nearby elevator.

Unfortunately, in the video, Dominguez fell victim to one of Elden Ring's invisible bosses - gravity. Following the attack, his character fell from the elevator platform back onto the bridge - unexpectedly right onto the Alabaster Lord's sword.

The Alabaster Lord is one of a few enemies in the game that utilize gravity-based magic. In this case, it pulled the player from mid-air and completed the combo with a deathly stab. Overall, it's an unfortunate (and unlucky!) way to discover that Elden Ring enemies will cleverly use mid-air combo attacks.

Most interestingly, this video is a clear example of smart enemy design; the AI responds quickly (and of course, in the most ruthless way possible) to player actions and mistakes. It reveals that, while the enemies may be overwhelming or punishing, they do so only in response to the player.

Ultimately, the creature ended up falling to its death alongside the player. Dominguez also jokes, "he sacrificed himself to make sure I didn't come back." Additionally, other commenters on the Reddit thread were equally surprised by the attack, further joking that this was "the most disrespectful death I've ever seen in the game."

Elden Ring is available to play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
