Quick Links

In Elden Ring, you’ll eventually need to find a path up to the Altus Plateau. While there are a few, less savory methods, the Grand Lift of Dectus is by far the most direct and perhaps the easiest to achieve. In order to use the lift, however, you’ll need to first acquire the left half and right half of the Dectus Medallion.

Elden Ring adopting Sekiro-style power scaling in Shadow of the Erdtree is inspired. If it works well, it should be the standard going forward.

The left half of the medallion is guarded in Fort Haight, found in the southern section of the Mistwood in eastern Limgrave. The right half of the medallion can be found in Fort Faroth in Dragonbarrow, Caelid.

Travel To Fort Haight In Mistwood

Elden Ring Map of Fort Haight West

To reach Fort Haight, you’ll want to ride south from the Third Church of Marika in Mistwood. Follow the road past the patrolling Runebears and Demihumans until you reach the Fort Haight West site of grace. From here, you’ll need to contend with the well-guarded fortress, battling knights, guards, rats, and a Pumpkin Head warrior. Fortunately, you won’t need to fight with any bosses at the fort.

Run up the hill from the site of grace, dodging ballistae bolts and Demihumans, until you reach the plateau on which the fort is built. Here, you can find a Golden Seed before entering the fort proper. Inside the fort, you’ll want to make your way up the interior scaffolding, avoiding or killing the various rats and explosive-throwing enemies, until you reach the top.

Elden Ring Knight atop Fort Haight

At the top of the wall, you’ll face off against a knight with a large shield and spear. He can be a tough enemy, but with patience and well-timed dodging, you’ll come out on top. Defeating him will earn you the Ash of War: Bloody Slash.

From the battle with the knight, turn around, and you’ll spot a lone tower going even higher. Enter the tower and climb the ladder inside. At the very top, you’ll find a lone chest on the landing. Inside, you will acquire Dectus Medallion (Left).

Visit Fort Faroth In Dragonbarrow

Elden Ring Map of Fort Faroth site of grace

Perhaps one of the more ominous forts found in Elden Ring, Fort Faroth is located deep within Dragonbarrow in Caelid.

  • To reach Fort Faroth, head back to the Third Church of Marika in Mistwood.
  • From the church site of grace, head northeast slightly to the end of the small body of water running by the church.
  • Nestled among the bushes, you’ll find a glowing teleporter. Take the teleporter to the Bestial Sanctum in Dragonbarrow.
  • From Bestial Sanctum, you’ll want to follow along the road south, then west, then finally as it turns back eastward (grab the various sites of grace along the way).

You’ll ride up on Elder Dragon Greyoll just outside of Fort Faroth, but Greyoll has been ravaged by the Scarlet Rot and is unable to defend himself. You will have to be careful of the patrolling smaller dragons around him, though. Ride around Greyoll’s massive body to reach the Fort Faroth site of grace, just behind the dragon.

Elden Ring Fort Faroth dark interior

Fort Faroth is a foreboding location filled with Giant Bats, Chanting Winged Dames, and Rats—among a few other surprises. Make sure to bring a torch or lantern along with you because it gets dark inside. Within, you’ll be met with a large number of Giant Bats and Chanting Winged Dames. You can take this slow, pulling one at a time, or you can sprint straight through, past all of the enemies, to the ladder at the far end of the room. Your choice, but you might want to spend all of your runes before running in—just in case.

Climb the ladder, and you will end up on a landing with a chest in front of you. Inside this chest, you will find the Dectus Medallion (Right). There are a few more goodies hidden in Fort Faroth, including a powerful Talisman, but for now, you’ll now have access to the Grand Lift of Dectus.

The Grand Lift Of Dectus Location

Elden Ring Grand Lift of Dectus

In order to reach the Grand Lift of Dectus, you’ll need to gain access to Raya Lucaria Academy in Liurnia of the Lakes. You don’t need to complete the academy legacy dungeon, but you will need to have gained passage through the magical gate by acquiring a Glintstone Key. From the Main Academy Gate site of grace, interact with the blue magic barrier located to the north and just before venturing out on the bridge. This will teleport you across the broken bridge to the far side.

Now that you’ve reached the far side of the bridge, simply follow this road all of the way through the ruins, defensive fortifications, and catapult fire to reach the Grand Lift of Dectus built into the cliff face. Once you’ve reached the Grand Lift of Dectus, step up onto the platform, and you’ll be prompted to ‘Hoist Medallion’ which will trigger the lift to activate, transporting you up to Altus Plateau.
