FromSoftware has officially confirmed that a new DLC expansion for Elden Ring is now in development.

Taking to Twitter, the announcement reads, "Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together. An upcoming expansion for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between." Unfortunately, no release date for Shadow of the Erdtree was revealed with the announcement.

A teaser image for the DLC was also included, which can be seen in Elden Ring's official tweet below.

The Japanese Elden Ring website had a few extra details surrounding the DLC, but not much. "As with the main story, we plan to distribute it on PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S / Steam," the website confirms. It then goes on to say, "The follow-up report is still a little ahead, but I would appreciate it if you could look forward to it."

Bear in mind, the website has been translated from Japanese to English, so the translation could be a little wonky. But, by the sounds of things, any further details could still be some ways away.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be the game's first major expansion, which has been highly anticipated for quite some time. FromSoftware did release a rather sizeable free Colosseum update towards the end of last year, and although it was incredibly well-received by players, it wasn't quite the DLC fans were hoping for.

In other Elden Ring news, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently revealed that he has a keen interest in new technologies surrounding multiplayer functionality. Although Miyazaki's interest in multiplayer functionality may not have an immediate effect on Elden Ring, it's something that could alter future FromSoftware titles. More details on Miyazaki's thoughts can be found at the link below.
