The Uchigatana has been a cornerstone of many previous FromSoftware games, and Elden Ring is no exception. It offers a well-rounded move set, blood loss buildup, and the ever-stylish Ash of War: Unsheathe. While there are many fantastic katana variations found throughout the Lands Between, the Uchigatana is a classic for a reason.

It’s a solid weapon and can carry you throughout the entire game if you so choose. Even if you leave it behind later on, the Uchigatana is an excellent early game weapon for your beginning adventures in Limgrave and beyond.

“A katana with a long single-edged curved blade. A unique weapon wielded by the samurai from the Land of Reeds. The blade, with its undulating design, boasts extraordinary sharpness, and its slash attacks cause blood loss.”

Choose The Samurai Class

The first and easiest way to acquire the Uchigatana is to start as the Samurai class. The Samurai class starts with an Uchigatana and the Land of the Reeds armor set—along with a few other gear items and a complementary stat spread. It’s a strong starting class with some solid gear right out the gate, so if you still need to make that starting class choice, you can’t go wrong with the Samurai.

Seek Out Deathtouched Catacombs

Whether you started as a Samurai and want to dual wield Uchigatana, or you started as another class and just want to get ahold of the classic weapon, you’ll want to make your way to Deathtouched Catacombs in Stormhill, Limgrave. Not only will you find the Uchigatana within, but you’ll also find the powerful Assassin’s Crimson Dagger talisman and one of the rare Deathroot items scattered across the Lands Between.

To Reach Deathtouched Catacombs

  1. Follow the golden path until you reach Stormhill Shack.
  2. From there, head east/northeast up the trodden path. You should come across the Warmaster’s Shack next. Feel free to acquire some Ashes of War from Knight Bernahl while you’re there.
  3. Continue east/northeast, following the path as it becomes more defined. You’re looking for a ledge along the northern rockface to climb up. If you’ve reached the Saintsbridge site of grace, you’ve gone too far.
  4. Once you leap up on the northern ledge and follow it around, you’ll come across the entrance to Deathtouched Catacombs.

Where To Find The Uchigatana In Deathtouched Catacombs

  • From the site of grace, run down the stairs until you see the sealed boss room door.
  • Turn left and head down those stairs, past a skeleton enemy, and into the next room. You’ll encounter multiple respawning skeleton enemies in this room (and throughout the catacombs), so be on your guard. They’re easy to put down, but you’ll need to strike them when they're glowing on the floor to keep them from rising again.

  • Take the stairs down and immediately turn around. You’ll see a small alcove on your left, against the western wall. Head through it.

  • The thin hallway eventually opens up into a larger room. You’ll spot a Grave Glovewort [1] and Grave Violet at the far end. Head through the doorway on the south side of this room.

And there you have it! While you’re here, you’ll want to jump down and run straight ahead, since the boss door lever is in the next room below. Make sure to defeat the catacombs boss, as the Assassin’s Crimson Dagger and the Deathroot are both valuable items.
