Elden Ring’s vast world has many items even some of the most seasoned players might miss. Though defeating bosses and traversing treacherous areas don’t necessarily require some of these essential items, a lot of them are surprisingly useful when it comes to killing specific enemies and abnormally strong bosses. Moreover, finishing the game still leaves room for missed opportunities with a lot of these items – as they’re sometimes tucked deep into hidden locations or simply skipped over.

Some of these items are looted off bosses and enemies, found through progressing the story or in concealed pockets throughout the map. Below is an in-depth list of these easily missed items that could benefit players in Elden Ring.

Weapons

Bolt of Gransax

The Bolt of Gransax is a spear and one of the legendary armaments. The spear exudes great physical damage that’s also lightning-imbued. Although the weapon itself doesn’t look too ostentatious, it’s mighty, and its striking design that takes after a lightning bolt pulls through with its lightning damage. One reason this legendary armament can be easy to miss is that the timing in which a player acquires it matters. It can be obtained in Leyndell, Royal Capital, upon defeating Godfrey's First Elden Lord. The spear is found wedged and stuck into a building located north of Erdtree Sanctuary. However, if players progress to the point of defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade at Crumbling Farum Azula, Leyndell will transition to the Ashen Capital, making the Bolt of Gransax impossible to obtain.

Coded Sword

The Coded Sword is a powerful straight sword that scales specifically with Faith and deals a great amount of Holy damage. It’s a fantastic weapon when it comes to defeating enemies that are weak when inflicted with Holy damage. The sword has an interestingly unique aesthetic as it glows with divine light. The sword can be obtained in the upper throne room of the Fortified Manor in Leyndell Royal Capital. Moreover, the throne room is southwest of the Round Table room. Part of what makes this item easy to miss is the timing of being able to acquire it, which must be done before killing Maliketh the Black Blade. Like the Bolt of Gransax, it will no longer be accessible in Leyndell, Ashen Capital.

Beast-Repellent Torch

The Beast-Repellent Torch is a helpful item to scare away some of the enemies in the game. Like other weapons, it can be upgraded using Smithing Stones up to +25. Even though players may already have a torch before encroaching on this opportunity, this specific torch keeps away enemies such as dogs, wolves, and giant dogs. The Beast-Repellent Torch can be purchased by the Isolated Merchant for 1200 Runes in Dragonbarrow.

Upgrade Materials

Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones

Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones are incredibly useful upgrading materials found throughout Elden Ring. They help strengthen special armaments up to +10. Unfortunately, they’re an annoyance to find, as they’re tucked away in concealed and discrete areas. Some of these areas inhabit difficult enemies and treacherous locations. Accumulatively, there are 8 different Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones. Two are in the Consecrated Snowfield, one in Mohgwyn Palace, three in Elphael Brace of the Haligtree, one in Leyndell Ashen Capital, and one in Leyndell Ashen Capital.

Equipment and Magic

Purifying Crystal Tear

The Purifying Crystal Tear is one of the crystal tears in Elden Ring. It’s used to enhance the effects of the Flask of Wondrous Physick. Like some others on this list, this item can help negate an attack from a boss. In this case, the boss that the Purifying Crystal Tear can be used against is Mohg, Lord of Blood. Moreover, Mohg’s curse effect can be avoided with the Crystal Tear equipped. Like every other crystal tear in Elden Ring, they stay in New Game +. The Purifying Crystal Tear is dropped by Eleondra, Violet Bloody Finger, an invading NPC at the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau.

Cookbooks

Cookbooks are essential items with extensive coverage of various crafting recipes. Like Crystal Tears, cookbooks are kept into New Game+. There are many cookbooks throughout the map that most players would’ve easily missed. However, to begin crafting, a crafting kit must first be purchased from Merchant Kalé at the Church of Elleh. There are 59 cookbooks in the game, and thankfully, there’s a progressing limit for going back and looking for the ones overlooked.

Armor

Bull-Goat Set

The Bull-Goat Set is a striking Armor Set that clothes the player with horns attached to the chest armor. This armor set has the highest physical defense and poise in Elden Ring – however, it also happens to be the heaviest armor set at 63 weight. Upon moving over to Volcano Manor, Patches will send the player a letter and request that they kill Great Horned Tragoth. Going through with the letter will immediately grant the player the Bull-Goat Armor Set. However, the player must join the Volcano Manor Covenant as well as complete a killing mission for Patches for this mission to be prompted.

War Surgeon’s Set

The War Surgeon’s Set is a cloth armor set. It was originally worn by White Mask Varré, one of Elden Ring’s first NPCs the player meets at the start of the game. If players are using a bleed build, the white mask will especially come in handy, as well as providing a 10% increase in attack power after an enemy is imposed with blood loss. The War Surgeon Set can be found after one of the Nameless White Mask NPCs invaders drops it in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum area in Siofra River. Moreover, it’ll be dropped just west of the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace within the lake filled with blood. The invader will spawn behind a stone pillar next to the Blistered Giant Crow.

Talismans

Shard of Alexander

The Shard of Alexander is a Talisman that exponentially increases the attack power of Skill by 15% and is extremely impactful for players who want to put forth their Weapon Skill. Players can obtain the Shard of Alexander upon successfully finishing Iron Fist Alexander’s questline. Keep in mind that killing Alexander will prevent any way of receiving this powerful Talisman.

Taker’s Cameo

Taker’s Cameo is another Talisman in Elden Ring, which restores HP after killing enemies. Like other Talismans in the game, they help boost a variety of stats. Players can be rewarded the Taker’s Cameo upon successfully finishing the third quest in Volcano Manor. This quest will require players to invade and kill Juno Hoslow, Knight of Blood, within the treacherous Mountaintops of the Giants. Players can acquire Juno Hoslow’s invade rune east of the Shack of the Lofty in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia is a Talisman, and it exponentially raises the player’s power with successive attacks and various stats. This item also boosts the power of various spells. Players can find the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia after helping Millicent as well as beating her sisters.

Spirit Ashes

Dung Eater Puppet

The Dung Eater Puppet is a Summon and a Spirit, which spawns the Spirit of the Dung Eater. This Summon is purchasable by Seluvis. What makes this item missable in the initiation is to prompt Seluvis to sell the Spirit. Players will need to use Seluvis’s potion on Dung Eater and later bring 5 Starlight Shards to Seluvis.

Nepheli Loux Puppet

The Nepheli Loux Puppet is a Summon and Spirit of Nepheli Loux, who is also an NPC with her questline. To acquire the Nepheli Loux Puppet, Nepheli Loux would’ve needed to drink Seluvis’s potion beforehand. Head over to Caria Manor and collect the puppet from Pidia. If Nepheli does not drink the potion before players attempt to collect it, Dolores, the Sleeping Arrow Puppet, will be there instead.

Sorceries

Gelmir’s Fury

Gelmir’s Fury is a Sorcery spell and can be easily missed without having defeated Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. The Gelmir’s Fury Spell causes magma to spill out of the ground, covering a decent space while inflicting pain on enemies via physical and fire damage. Players can receive Gelmir’s Fury after successfully finishing the assassination request from Resucant Bernahl in Volcano Manor. This spell is incredibly useful for those who want to inflict fire damage, as it's one of the few spells that can. Keep in mind that defeating the boss (Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy) will cause everyone in Volcano Manor to leave, which includes Bernahl. Moreover, defeating this boss won’t only keep players away from acquiring Gelmir’s Fury but also any opportune and missed questlines from the other characters.

Key Items

Mimic’s Veil

The Mimic’s Veil is a tool as well as a multiplayer item. It allows players to disguise themselves as objects in the same location to hide from various enemies and other players online. The tool is like playing a game of prop hunt – if players don’t move while the item is in use, there’s a good possibility nobody will notice the extra prop in the area. The Mimic’s Veil is in Stormveil Castle in a chest.

Lantern

Elden Ring's lantern is a helpful tool that wraps securely around the player’s waist to illuminate their surroundings. Although the lantern is simply just a lantern and doesn’t deal any kind of damage, it’s a reusable consumable and replaces any need to use weapons for illumination. Moreover, because the lantern hangs from the waist, the player still has their hands to work with.

Consumables

Elden Ring Missable Items Guide Pic 4

Margit’s Shackle

Margit’s Shackle is a tool that comes with surprising usage as the game progresses. While battling Margit, it can temporarily stun him and make the fight easier. Although the name would suggest that its utilization only goes that far, it can be used later on for another boss fight – Morgott the Omen King. Margit’s Shackle doesn’t deal any damage, but stunning Margit will give the player enough leeway to unleash attacks during that frame of time. The item is purchasable from Patches for 5000 Runes in Murkwater Cave. Alternatively, it can be bought from the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold, but only after handing over Patches’ Bell Bearing.

Blasphemous Claw

The Blasphemous Claw is a tool that’s designed to aid the player in defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade. The item can be used during the boss fight as a deflector – using the Black Blade’s attacks similar to a Parry. Maliketh is a difficult boss to fight, and the Blasphemous Claw comes in handy for those struggling to defeat him. Thankfully, the claw is relatively close to the Maliketh boss arena and dropped after defeating Recusant Bernahl at Crumbling Farum Azula.

Mohg’s Shackle

Mohg’s Shackle is a tool that makes defeating the boss, Mohg, much easier. Like some other tools and items on this list, Mohg’s Shackle is primarily used during a boss fight. When used, Mohg’s body will erratically slam into the ground and temporarily stun him. Even though no damage is dealt as this occurs, keeping him debilitated might allow players to win the fight, and it’s perfect for those who struggle with defeating him. To acquire Mohg’s Shackle, go all the way down to Subterranean Shunning-Grounds in Lyndell Royal Capital, also known as the sewers. The item is guarded by a couple of Giant Crayfish and sits on top of a corpse.

Flask of Wondrous Physick

The Flask of Wondrous Physick is a consumable item that isn’t as easily missed due to its growth in popularity but hidden in an easily overlooked location. Moreover, players that are keen on the main storyline are more prone to miss it. This item is created by using Crystal Tears and is extremely useful for achieving various special effects. In the Third Church of Marika Site of Grace, the flask can be found in front of a statue on the ground. Alternatively, it can be found in the Roundtable Hold.
