While battling a squadron of Direwolves, one Elden Ring player discovered a hidden Latenna ability that hearkens back to her sorrowful backstory.

From Breath of the Wild to Elden Ring, one of the coolest aspects of open-world games is exploration. Discovering random events, niche NPCs, or hidden lore adds excitement and mystery to an already-huge game, leading to unique experiences for every player.

Of course, it's no secret that Elden Ring is chock full of hidden abilities and references. The game's lore twists and turns, hiding in every area and every character just waiting for the player to find it. Of course, then, it's no surprise that players continue to find new details every day.

One Elden Ring player came across a particularly niche hidden detail for Latenna the Albinauric, finding a surprising connection to her backstory in the midst of battle.

ELDEN RING RARE LATENNA ABILITY

Originally, Latenna is a Quest NPC that players interact with after completing the Lakeside Crystal Cave dungeon. Found resting sadly beside her fallen "faithful companion" wolf Lobo, Latenna asks the player to take her to the Haligtree. Upon making this promise, players receive Latenna's Spirit Ashes to summon her spirit - Latenna the Albinauric.

Though Latenna is a useful spirit summon, her attack style creates difficulties in close-combat situations. Her arrows may give great ranged support, but she remains rooted in the spot she was summoned. This "turret" style prevents her from having much mobility - that is, until one player discovered Latenna's hidden ability.

On the r/EldenRing subreddit, u/neoPie unveiled a surprising find. While battling Direwolves and a Troll, u/neoPie watched their summoned Latenna mount one of the Direwolves. She then darted around the Troll, continuing to fire arrows from the back of her new mount. Watch the full clip below:

This random ability temporarily turns the wolf into a helpful companion, giving Latenna way more mobility than she usually has. Though the wolf remains hostile to the player, it gave them a greater tactical advantage in their battle. Other players who have relied on Latenna their whole game have yet to see this happen themselves, making this an incredibly rare find.

As if this ability wasn't cool enough, it also serves as a nod to Latenna's beloved wolf companion, Lobo. While the player unfortunately never sees Lobo fight alongside Latenna alive, this hidden ability gives a small look into what their companionship used to look like. In a sweet, heartwrenching moment, the two friends are reunited - if only for one battle.

Elden Ring is available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
