Walking Mausoleums are one of the more unusual creatures you’ll come across in Elden Ring. You can often hear them well before you see them; the ringing of their bell is a sure tell you’re about to come across one.

You’ll usually find that the Walking Mausoleums are accompanied by spectral knights patrolling the area, but they can be easily avoided while riding Torrent, and the spectral knights will vanish once the Walking Mausoleum is taken down. Walking Mausoleums are used to duplicate Boss Remembrances you’ve acquired in the game.

Duplicating Boss Remembrances

After defeating each of the main bosses in the Lands Between, you’ll be granted their Boss Remembrance. This can be used to gain a set number of Runes or presented to Finger Reader Enia at Roundtable Hold. When presented to Enia, you will be given an option of two rewards: usually a weapon and some kind of sorcery or incantation related to the corresponding boss. Each Boss Remembrance can only grant you one of these items, but the Walking Mausoleums allow you to duplicate a Boss Remembrance in order to gain the other item from Enia.

Two Types of Walking Mausoleums

Elden Ring bell and no-bell variants of Walking Mausoleum

The first type, and the majority of Walking Mausoleums you will encounter, have a bell hanging beneath them. These Walking Mausoleums can duplicate any Boss Remembrance you come across:

  • Remembrance of the Grafted
  • Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen
  • Remembrance of the Starscourge
  • Remembrance of the Omen King
  • Remembrance of the Blasphemous
  • Remembrance of the Rot Goddess
  • Remembrance of the Blood Lord
  • Remembrance of the Regal Ancestor
  • Remembrance of the Black Blade
  • Remembrance of the Naturalborn
  • Remembrance of the Fire Giant
  • Remembrance of the Lichdragon
  • Remembrance of the Dragonlord
  • Remembrance of Hoarah Loux
  • Elden Remembrance

The second type of Walking Mausoleum has no bell hanging beneath them. These Walking Mausoleums will only duplicate the Remembrances of the non-shardbearer bosses found throughout the game:

  • Remembrance of the Regal Ancestor
  • Remembrance of the Black Blade
  • Remembrance of the Naturalborn
  • Remembrance of the Fire Giant
  • Remembrance of the Lichdragon
  • Remembrance of the Dragonlord
  • Remembrance of Hoarah Loux
  • Elden Remembrance

First Walking Mausoleum: Weeping Peninsula

Elden Ring Weeping Peninsula map

The first Walking Mausoleum you’ll come across can be found in Weeping Peninsula, southeast of the Fourth Church of Marika site of grace. You’ll find white spectral skull growth clustered around the base of the Walking Mausoleum’s legs. You’ll want to ride in, attacking the ones you find, and they should break away. Be careful to avoid the Walking Mausoleum’s stomping feet, as they will instantly kill you if you don’t get out of their way. After breaking enough of the skull growths, the Walking Mausoleum will lower itself to the ground, and you will then be able to enter the structure on top of it.

Second Walking Mausoleum: Liurnia of the Lakes

Elden Ring Liurnia of the Lakes map

The second Walking Mausoleum can be found northeast of Raya Lucaria Academy. Ride directly north of the Gate Town North site of grace, and you’ll come across the Walking Mausoleum in the bay east of the Raya Lucaria Academy northern bridge. This Walking Mausoleum is one of the weirdest to bring down. West of the Walking Mausoleum, you’ll find a Spirit Spring. Take that up to the cliffs running above the bay. You’ll spy several massive gravestones sticking out of the cliff face on the northern side over the bay. Carefully descend some of these gravestones until you’re just a little above the Walking Mausoleum.

Elden Ring Tarnish standing before Walking Mausoleum

The Walking Mausoleum will approach your position. Be patient. It’s very easy to jump too early and have to make the ascent all over again. Simply wait until the Walking Mausoleum is directly next to you. Even when it seems like it won’t get any closer, it will. It should eventually be close enough to jump without Torrent, but feel free to summon Torrent for some extra assurance. Rather than the ghostly white skulls clustered around its legs, the white skulls can be found all around the mausoleum structure itself. Break a few, and you’ll bring it down in no time.

Third & Fourth Walking Mausoleums: Liurnia of the Lakes

Elden Ring Liurnia Walking Mausoleum locations (no-bell variant)

The Third & Fourth ones you come across are the ones with no bell hanging beneath them. This means they can only duplicate non-shardbearer Boss Remembrances. These two Walking Mausoleums are located very close together: one north of the Mausoleum Compound site of grace and one south of it. These two Mausoleums can be brought down by the normal method; breaking the skull growths around their legs until they lower themselves to the ground. Be careful: in addition to simply stomping around, these two will leap high into the air, coming down with an intense impact. You’ll want to be on your toes when darting between their stony legs.

Fifth Walking Mausoleum: Mountaintops of the Giants

Elden Ring Castle Sol Map

The fifth Walking Mausoleum can be found just outside Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants. This one can be brought down with the usual method, and aside from the dramatic thunder and lightning in the area, it doesn’t offer any particular challenge in bringing down.

Sixth Walking Mausoleum: Consecrated Snowfield

Elden Ring Apostate Derelict map

The sixth Walking Mausoleum can be found in the far northwest of Consecrated Snowfield, just south of the Apostate Derelict church. As you ride near, you’ll immediately be struck by the major difference with this one; it is firing off volleys of magical energy, which are raining down all around it. Expect to take some hits as you approach. Once you’re beneath it, you’ll just need to bring it down with the usual method.

Note: this Walking Mausoleum is bugged for many players, and it won’t offer any Boss Remembrance duplicating. Some players have been able to reload the area and fix it, while others have simply never been able to use it.

Seventh Walking Mausoleum: Deeproot Depths

Elden Ring Deeproot Depths map

The final Walking Mausoleum can be found in Deeproot Depths, north of The Nameless Eternal City site of grace. This Walking Mausoleum, much like the second one, has its skull growths around the structure itself, rather than clustered around its legs. You’ll want to ride up onto the tree roots growing to the southwest of the Walking Mausoleum. Be careful of the basilisks lurking up in the roots and branches. Ride out across roots until you’re able to jump onto the Mausoleum. After that, you can bring it down like all the rest.
