The Elder Scrolls Online has sold 8.5 million copies since its launch back in April of 2014, according to MMORPG.com who recently spoke to game director Matt Firor. According to the MMORPG, the massively online role-playing game based in the Elder Scrolls franchise had 7 million layers as of June 2016, meaning it has grown 1.5 million players in the last eight months.

According to Firor, the population is split fairly evenly among all platforms: PC, Xbox One and PS4.

In other recent news, ZeniMax Online Studios (the developer) announced The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind expansion as well as reveled its first gameplay trailer. Additionally, the hotly anticipated Homestead update has finally arrived on PS4 and Xbox One, after launching on PC a few weeks ago.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac.
