Paradoxically, one of the most interesting aspects of Driveclub has very little to do with cars, and it’s its incredible lighting engine and the volumetric cloud system that make its sky so lively and beautiful.
That’s why, for once, we put the cars out of the way and we decided to record a time-lapse video of the sky, from night to day, in all the five countries included in the game.
Interestingly, among all the beauty, we notice a small graphical shortcut. Apparently the dynamic shadows cast on the ground are approximated during the middle of the day, moving in small jumps, while they slide on the asphalt with smooth perfection closer to dawn and dusk. We don’t know the reason for this, but of course you’d never notice it while driving.
That said, not many games have such a charming skies, and we got to give props to Evolution Studios, because they add a lot of atmosphere to the game.
Take a cup of tea, relax in your couch, and enjoy the passing of time, accelerated in the game by 60 times compared to a real day, and by 15 times more in the video.
