Epic Games and Apple Continue Messy Divorce by Ending Sign-In Functionality

Epic Games will no longer be able to let users log in to their accounts via Apple beginning later this week on September 11.

The saga of Epic Games and Apple going at one another is continuing this week, with the battle between the two mega-corporations now resulting in changes with Epic’s user accounts.

In the past, Epic allowed users who had accounts with them to sign-in via their Apple ID. However, as of the end of this week, the function will be going the way of the dodo. Starting on September 11, the “Sign In with Apple” option that is tied to user accounts with Epic will be eliminated entirely. Epic says that this is something that Apple has opted to remove and isn’t something that the Fortnite developer pushed to change.

So, if you’re one of these people who has previously signed-in with their Apple ID to Epic’s network, what does that mean for you? Well, for starters, it means you need to take action to change your account this week. On Epic’s site, it lays out what you’ll need to do in order to rectify this before changes take place on Friday. Essentially, all you need to do is add a new email address and password to the account so that you’ll still be able to log in after the 11th.

If you don’t make these changes prior to Friday however, well, you may still be able to recover your account, but the process will be a bit trickier. Epic says it may still be able to manually recover your old account after this time, but you’ll need to personally reach out to the company’s contact line to do so.

All in all, it’s not surprising to see that this function has come to an end. At this point, the more interesting throughline is going to be seeing how this whole situation shakes out in the end.
