One of the biggest criticisms of the Epic Games Store since it first launched has been how it lacks many features that have become commonplace on other platforms. Now, nearly two years after first arriving, a rather substantial request for the platform is now beginning to be implemented.Epic Games announced today that the storefront is finally going to start adding achievements to its platform in the near future. Epic divulged in a new message on social media that, "Certain games on the Epic Games Store may begin to display achievements as you unlock them." While achievements seemingly aren't going to be implemented for all games right away, the component is said to still be in an "early" iteration, and therefore changes are still to come in the future.

While it's a net positive that EGS is finally getting achievements, it's hard to imagine that this will cause the platform's biggest critics to do a 180 by any means. Even though I personally find the Epic Games Store to be a perfectly fine marketplace, it is hard to argue that the service isn't still lacking when compared to Steam, specifically.

At the end of the day, likely the biggest allure for many with the Epic Games Store comes with its weekly free video game offerings and its timed-exclusive releases. Achievements are absolutely a step in the right direction for Epic with its storefront, and hopefully, we'll continue to get even more new implementations like this soon enough.
