Designed by Warren Spector and boasting some pretty fun paintbrush-battle mechanics utilizing Wii motion controls, Epic Mickey was enjoyable save for the infuriating way the camera rearranged itself just as you were jumping, leading to paint-splattered death. But in the end it proved lovable enough to warrant a sequel, and on the Nintendo 3DS no less.
Epic Mickey 2: Power of Illusion is reportedly set for reveal next week, if a rogue tweet from Nintendo Magazine France is to be believed. Add to this Spector’s tease that his next big project will be revealed on March 27, and, well… This has Mickey’s cute little mug written all over it.
The return to Mickey’s artistic roots is a good one, and for the current generation of children with Hannah Montana-addled brains a few nods to Disney’s golden era may do them a world of good. Bringing classic Mickey and co. back to life is a charming idea, and video games could be the best medium with which to do it. I have only one request of this game, and that is no kooky Kingdom Hearts tie-in. That would be overkill.
