The biggest fighting game tournament of the year, EVO 2018, is on the horizon and its presence has now drawn even closer after the reveal of the games that will be in competition.

Eight games in total will be featured at EVO 2018 with some of them being returning classics like Super Smash Bros. Melee, to more recently released titles such as Dragon Ball FighterZ. The full lineup for EVO 2018 is as follows:

  • Tekken 7
  • Injustice 2
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ
  • Street Fighter V Arcade Edition
  • BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
  • Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2

Games from EVO 2017 that didn't make it to this year's lineup include King of Fighters XIVBlazBlue: Central Fiction, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which was voted on by fans to appear at last year's tournament.

The most notable absence on the list, however, would be that of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. The newest game in the beloved MVC series has seen a mixed response from both fans and critics alike--see our review-- since its release last September. The loss of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite appearing at EVO 2018 will mark the first time in EVO's history that it has not featured a game from the MvC franchise. For a series that is so beloved and important in the fighting game community, that's a pretty big deal.

Even without the appearance of Marvel vs Capcom, this year's lineup seems quite exciting and it should be fun to see new games like Dragon Ball FighterZ played at the highest level for the first time. EVO 2018 will take place this summer from August 3-5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
