And it shows, especially if early reviews are any indication. TimeGate Studios, a PC developer mostly known for their work in (the no-so-hot) Section 8 was apparently at the helm of single player development for the newly released Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Back in May of 2012 an "ex Gearbox developer" by the name of "mugwurt" posted this reply on the TexAgs forum:

Hate to say it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines. I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, 6 years now? Gearbox isn't even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past.

I hope it proves me wrong, as I still have alot of friends still working at Gearbox, but I am expecting it to be average at best.

Under normal circumstances I would consider it just a bitter ex-employee with an agenda. However, when I think back to every time that we've seen the game in person at various trade shows, Gearbox would only be on hand to show off their multiplayer component. Single player was usually a hands-off experience with the game's producers focusing on using buzzwords like "canon" and "Ridley Scott" to sell the game to press and consumers.

I haven't played the game for review just yet as I'm waiting for the Wii U version, but this doesn't exactly get me too excited for when it does eventually arrive.
