Exception is a stylish combat platformer from indie developer Traxmaster Software. The team has been working on the game since late 2013 and the latest trailer shows that they've spent that time well. Check it out below.

Exception looks and sounds like it's straight out of Tron. The synthwave soundtrack and vibrant visuals are immediately eye-catching. And then the gameplay starts and you know that this game has potential.

On the surface, Exception is a 2D combat platformer. You're jumping and shooting your way through levels. However, each level has a lot more going on then you might originally assume. The levels in Exception transform to open up new pathways and obstacles as you go. When you hit a green orb, the level completely flips around, which is both an awesome visual and a way to constantly keep you on your toes.

The game also includes some light RPG elements. As you string together hypnotic combinations and execute special attacks you'll get access to new attack upgrades that will push your ability to cause mayhem to the maximum.

This looks like an ambitious project for a young studio. That said, they've certainly been working hard on it for a while and what they've shown thus far looks very promising. It's hard to know with a game like this how well it will be received until you get your hands on it. Fluid controls and reactive movement are so paramount to the experience. You can't know if that's there in just a trailer. However, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now as this trailer is incredible.

Exception is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One this summer. While you wait, stay with DualShockers for all your indie news.
