Following the report that Miura Kentaro, the creator of Berserk, passed away, tribute from several artists and mangaka have been shared - most notably on Twitter, with messages from Fairy Tail's author Hiro Mashima and Hajime no Ippo's author Jyoji Morikawa among others. We translated them below.

Hiro Mashima's tribute to Kentaro Miura

Hiro Mashima: "Berserk is like an extension of my youth. Whenever a new volume releases, I go buy it on the release date, excited like a kid. I'm incredibly sad and shocked. I pray Miura sensei will rest in peace."

Hiro Mashima is the mangaka of Groove Adventure Rave, Fairy Tail, and the ongoing Edens Zero.

Hajime no Ippo creator Jyoji Morikawa - Tribute to Berserk author Kentaro Miura

Jyoji Morikawa was one of Kentaro Miura's friends, and Miura was most notably his assistant for a time. Morikawa shared two long threads on Twitter where he recounted their first meeting and their friendship. You can find a translation below courtesy of @KertysL.

Yoko Taro is the creative director of the NieR series, whose human values and beautiful themes certainly reflect Berserk's.

Rei Hiroe: "After waking up, I heard Miura Kentaro sensei passed away. Ah… Berserk will stay unfinished… It was an incredible fantasy and a great manga. It's one of the few manga I've been still buying for a very long time. Thank you for everything, please rest in peace."

Yana Toboso: "I started reading Berserk by Miura sensei when I was a teenager, I found it incredible, and I was greatly influenced by it. I'm very sad we won't see any more chapters. I pray that Miura sensei will rest in peace."

Kazama Raita is an illustrator and character designer on several games, recently he most notably worked on the strategy and war simulation game Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia on PS4 and Switch.

Samuel Deats, director of Castevania Netflix, pays tribute to Berserk creator Kentaro Miura

Samuel Deats paid a tribute to Miura on Twitter. The Castlevania Netflix series, with its final season, is pretty much the best latest Berserk anime adaptation, in a sense.

Ryohgo Narita: "Needless to say, not only Berserk itself, but many works inspired by Berserk have in turn inspired me, so I am incredibly sad."

Ryohgo Narita is the author of Baccano, Durarara, Vamps, among other novels.

Junichi Inoue: "Berserk was the answer to everything. Berserk was perfect for us, looking for an answer when a new wave of Fantasy came from abroad. Since Berserk, we started naming Fantasy comics "Berserk-like comics". Us in the Tabletop RPG world were propelled by the writing prowess of Miura sensei."
