Everybody's favorite post-apocalyptic role-playing game, Fallout, is officially 25 years old today. The first entry in the hugely popular series was released on October 10th, 1997 and the series is still going strong with its latest release, Fallout 76, which was released on November 14th, 2018.

Bethesda hasn't forgotten about the huge anniversary either, with a month-long celebration taking place during the course of October. A blog post by the publisher was posted at the start of this month, asking players to join them in celebrating 25 years of Fallout."We’re not just celebrating Fallout’s birthday, we’re celebrating Fallout’s birth month. Each week in October, you can visit fallout25.com to learn what we’ve got planned for that week’s festivities", Bethesda announced.

The series' latest release, Fallout 76, was the first online game in the series and acts as a prequel to the previous entries. Fans who are yet to check out Fallout 76 can play for free between October 4th and October 11th, and can even purchase the full game at a discounted price. To celebrate 25 years of Fallout, the franchise has a special sale on until October 12th on the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store, and until October 18th on Steam.

Fallout Shelter, the series' mobile title, is also set to receive a big update later this month. The update will be the first time that new content has been added to the game in over four years. According to Bethesda, the new update will include an all-new quest line featuring new enemies, new weapons, the ability to recruit new dwellers, and more.

Given that the last mainline entry in the series was released back in 2015 with Fallout 4, fans are eager to get their hands on Fallout 5. Thankfully, Bethesda's Todd Howard confirmed in an interview with IGN that Fallout 5 will be happening, but it's still likely some ways away. "Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while", Howard said.

With Elder Scrolls 6 still yet to receive a firm release date, it could still be years until we finally get our hands on Fallout 5.
