In Fallout lore, October 23 is the day the bombs dropped. The event is described as the "one that started it all" and it's correct. If no fictional bombs fell, we'd have no Fallout. To celebrate, Bethesda has put together a "week of excitement" that includes plenty for players to sink their teeth into. One of the biggest components of this event is the fact that the polarising Fallout 76 will be free to play for the entire week. Starting now and running through October 26, players will get access to the full base game, plus the two expansions Wastelanders and Nuclear Winter. The two expansions significantly alter the game, with Wastelanders adding the heavily requested NPC's and Nuclear Winter a battle royale-style mode. The free play week will be available for players on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.Players who take part in the free play week will be able to carry their progress over should they decide to purchase the full game during or after the trial. Bethesda does confirm that Xbox players will require an active Xbox Live Gold membership to partake in the event.

Bethesda also confirms that "there will be three in-game events running from October 22 - 26" and that players will get "Double S.C.O.R.E. and Double XP, and get 25% off Legendary weapons and armor from Purveyor Murmrgh at the Rusty Pick."

The trial also offers players the opportunity to dip their toes into the controversial Fallout 1st free of charge. This trial grants players access to unlimed storage in the Scrapbox as well as the Survival Tent.

The Bombs Drop Day event also includes some big discounts on Fallout Games and the Fallout 76 premium currency Atoms. Fallout 76 is up to 60% off, Fallout 4 up to 70% off and the Atoms up to 35% off during the event period. Shelter fans haven't been forgotten either, with "steep discounts" available on bundles.
