Fan Art Displays Iconic PlayStation Games in a Fun Exploded PS3 Display

October 15, 2021

What makes a console great? Its technical abilities, or maybe how it’s built? Well, artist Pierre “Pear” Roussel’s exploded PS3 display offers a different answer.

The PlayStation has now gone through five generations since the mid-1990s, bringing new technical abilities and graphics with each version. With such a variety of games, exclusive and otherwise, it’s no wonder why it’s remained one of the biggest players in the console wars.

But even with all the stunning new graphics and motion controls, what really makes a console great are its games. The PlayStation has no shortage of beloved classics, and artist Pierre “Pear” Roussel showcases them all in his fun exploded display of the PS3.

In Roussel’s PS3 art, he splits the console into five separate levels, each covered in cameos from games like Assassin’s Creed and Journey. He shows the mechanical workings of the console, displaying how all the interior parts come together to make a working machine.

Combining the architectural “exploded view” of the console with fan art of so many games, Roussel shows a true representation of all the things that made the PS3 a household favorite. It’s a perfect display for all kinds of game lovers, from the tech-heads to the more casual players.

You could spend hours looking at all of the references and pixellated characters, but for those who want a quick run-down, here are all the games on each level, from top to bottom:

  • Fat Princess, Little Big Planet, Battlefield: Bad Company 2
  • Demons Souls, Dragon Age, Uncharted, MGS4, Assassin’s Creed
  • 3D Dot Game Heroes, Dragon’s Crown, God of War, Last of Us
  • Journey, Killzone, FF13, inFamous

Additionally, Roussel has given previous PlayStation generations the same kind of exploded representation. From the original PS1 to the PS4, you can take a look below at their exploded views – you’ll probably see at least a few of your favorites!

As for an interior look at the PS5, we’ll have to wait and see what’s next on Roussel’s list. Though, according to his Twitter, it looks like the SNES exploded view will be the next one posted.

Along with that, he hasn’t just created exploded views of PlayStation consoles. He’s broken apart the classic Nintendo 64, the Xbox 360, and Sega’s Dreamcast console, showing their fan-favorite games as well.
