During the Fantasia Bunko Dai Kanshasai 2018 event, Kadokawa-owned light novel publisher Fantasia Bunko announced Fantasia Re:Build, a crossover RPG featuring many popular light novels turned anime.

The game will include characters from:

  • Slayers
  • Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend
  • Sky Wizards Academy
  • Chrome Shelled Regios
  • Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon
  • The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
  • Tokyo Ravens
  • Chaika - The Coffin Princess
  • Date A Live

The game's story will be written by Date A Live's author Koushi Tachibana. I must say Tachibana-san is one of the best light novel authors currently out there, so I think we can expect some good things for the story. As for the game's original character design, it will be handled by Kurone Mishima, original character designer of Konosuba.

Some of these franchises already got multiple game adaptations in the past, especially Slayers, which is considered by many, myself included, as the best light novel of all time.

Similar crossover RPGs between light novel and anime franchises were also already made in the past. There was Heroes Phantasia for PSP released in 2012, and Super Heroine Chronicle for PS Vita and PlayStation 3 in 2014. Both were Japan exclusive, published by Bandai Namco and developed by Banpresto. There was also Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, a light novel crossover fighting game by Sega released in 2015.

Needless to say, I'm quite excited about Fantasia Re:Build. Further information about the game like its platforms will be revealed by Kadokawa at a later date.
