This has been a rough week for Far Cry 6 leaks, including the release date, main antagonist, and trailer. But hey -- let's focus on the positives, what didn't leak? A key detail, that will make a lot of next-gen upgraders happy. According to the Far Cry 6 product page, anyone who buys the title on current-gen will be able to upgrade top the PS5 or Xbox Series X version at no additional cost.

While the news wasn't mentioned full in the Ubisoft Forward digital event that officially debuted the title, information seen on the Far Cry 6 website lays it out clearly:

And honestly -- this is a huge boon to consumers, especially those who normally upgrade their hardware at launch. While there isn't any information on what this process looks like, here's hoping it is as simple as being able to use the disc on both consoles with an optional upgrade.

Of course, Ubisoft isn't the first to the party when it comes to this idea. CD Projekt Red made waves with one of the first announcements that Cyberpunk 2077 won't require any additional purchase to upgrade to the next-gen version. In fact, the move is so popular that Xbox as a company is reportedly encouraging all developers that next-gen cross-platform games should all come with free upgrades.

In case you missed the Ubisoft Forward event, make sure to check out the trailer below -- you can get a better idea of Esposito's new role as the revolutionary antagonist.

In any case, Far Cry 6 is currently slated to launch on February 18, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If you have taken a break from the series since the last big release, you have plenty of time to pick up and play its post-apocalyptic sequel Far Cry New Dawn physically on Amazon to help support DualShockers.
