Farming Simulator 17 Hits One Million Player Milestone in Less Than One Month

It’s no secret that the simulation genre has a cult, hardcore following — especially the Farming Simulator series. Alas, it shouldn’t be that surprising then that today developer Giant Software and publisher Focus Home Interactive announced that in less than a month Farming Simulator 17 has hit one million players, a new record for the series

According to a new press release, this almost twice the sales of the previous installment at launch, which has since sold 3 million copies in two years. Meaning, it appears Farming Simulator 17 is well on its way to put up some big numbers.

With the new installment one thing hasn’t changed: PC is the still the premier platform for the game, with it accounting for half of the sales.  Even on consoles were the series is typically not nearly as successful, the game has made some waves. Despite only releasing on two consoles this time, the Xbox One and PS4 (last time year it released on Xbox 360 and PS3 as well) it found itself the number one game for in-store sales on all platforms in Germany, number three in Scandinavia, four in France, and number five in England.

Thomas Frey Creative Director Giants Software had the following to say about the news:

“Reaching one million players in such a short amount of time is simply amazing. It makes us very happy to see that Farming Simulator 17 is being received so well after all the work we’ve put in the game and the additional people we brought on board to make our largest project ever come to life.” “In our publisher Focus Home Interactive, we have a great partner who fully supports our vision of creating a game that lives up to the expectations of our passionate community throughout all stages of development and release, which led to this success”

Cédric Lagarrigue, President of Focus Home Interactive added the following:

“Farming Simulator was always a game for fans, but with Farming Simulator 17 it has expanded into a whole new experience for a wide audience, who needed to be offered new things in video games. Existing fans of the series are already impressed by the improvements and its amazing content. As for newcomers to the series, they discover a really addictive and rewarding title, sharing some similarities in the games’ mechanics between Farming Simulator and other genre reference. Giants Software has done an exceptional job with Farming Simulator 17, and we are very proud to have collaborated with them for five years now. The happiness of these many players is the most beautiful reward for both our companies”

Farming Simulator 17 is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
