Type-Moon and Nasuverse fans get hype, a brand new entry in Fate, the legendary franchise that started with Fate/stay night, has been announced with a first character key visual reveal.

The official Twitter account of Comptiq announced on April 5, 2022, a brand new series in the Fate franchise. This new series happens to be novels, with a detailed introduction to be included in the next Type-Moon Magazine released on April 12.

Fate is Getting Brand New Novels - First Details and Character Reveal

The new Fate novel series will be written by Hikaru Sakurai. In the past, she was a director and scenarist at Liar Soft who most notably worked on Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning, available on Steam. Hikaru Sakurai was also one of the writers of Fate/Extella.

The novel's illustrations will be handled by Shirow Miwa, who did the character design of JRPGs 7th Dragon and the upcoming Soul Hackers 2.

Japanese Fans Already have their own Theories and Speculation

A first key visual for the new Fate series was revealed, featuring a new character with white hair and blue eyes, alongside what looks like horns. Part of the Japanese Fate fanbase on Twitter believes the new character is related to Brynhildr. Especially seeing Shirow Miwa was the character designer of Brynhildr in FGO.

The series was also confirmed to feature a new setting and brand new Heroic Spirits and Servants. Check out the full version of the key visual below.

The Fate Series Expands Once Sgain

Nowadays, Fate/stay night and the Fate franchise as a whole is an inherent part of anime culture. You've definitely heard or seen references to Type-Moon's magnum opus in other anime even if you're unaware of it yourself. The Fate series is even more mainstream now both in and outside Japan thanks to Fate/Grand Order, one of the most popular mobile games of all time, which is nowadays rivaled by newer releases like Genshin Impact and Uma Musume Prety Derby.

The Fate series and FGO by itself also have many TV anime and movies, some of which are lauded as masterpieces like Fate/Zero, which is often recommended to newcomers as the first thing to watch. Though I personally believe it's the worse thing its author Gen Urochubi ever wrote. I'd much more recommend entering the franchise with the Fate/Unlimited Blade Works TV series.

In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if Studio Ufotable, which handles all Type-Moon anime nowadays, made a new anime for this new Fate novel series a few years from now on. When it comes to the gaming world, Type-Moon is also working on a remake of Fate/Extra, first released in 2010 on PSP. The remake project is helmed by Kazuya Nino, who worked on the original game and Dragon Quest Builders.
