Are the FF7FS servers down, maintenance time

The official Twiter account for FF7FS announced an emergency server maintenance starting at 8:15 AM EST / 5 AM PST, the maintenance end time is currently TBD, and it'll be announced later on, still via Twitter.

The same message was published via the Japanese Twitter account for the game.

There are several things to note here. It's a very usual thing for a Japanese mobile game to end up in maintenance the day it launched. So you shouldn't be alarmed, not yet.

In fact, this looked so far like a pretty streamlined launch. Usually, most Japanese mobile games tend to release unfinished and riddled with bugs. Meanwhile, the only major issue FF7FS seems to be facing at launch is this server congestion problem. I just hope the development team won't be doing too much overtime.

How did the Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier servers get congested?

Basically, what game studios do is look at the numbers of pre-registrations, and multiply it by a certain amount, and prepare servers for that specific amount of players at launch.

It looks like many more players showed up to try out FF7FS at launch, way over the number Square Enix expected. Resulting in this situation. Hopefully, maintenance will end in a few hours and everyone will be able to try out Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier. We'll update this story as soon as possible when we hear an ending time for the maintenance. Right now, players can still customize their characters and play the tutorial.

Can you play FF7FS right now? (update)

Right now, Square Enix opened up Battles, maintenance is still ongoing, but the game is now playable. It's possible Battles will get closed again if other problems arise.

Update: Maintenance is now over, however, several players are still reporting some issues and are unable to log in. We'll keep an eye on the situation.
