FIFA 21 Cover Star Announced as Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe ushers in a new generation of Cover Stars.

Young French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe has been named as the cover star for all three editions of FIFA 21.

The 21-year-old megastar is now widely considered as one of the best football players in the world. At his young age, he’s already won the FIFA World cup, multiple French Ligue 1 titles and a myriad of individual honors, including 2018-2019’s Ligue 1 player of the year. He is also France’s youngest ever World Cup goal scorer and only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final after the legendary Pele.

The three editions, Standard, Champions and Ultimate were announced by EA and have a distinctive look when compared to previous years covers.

The Ultimate Edition is particularly striking, featuring Mbappe in his regular clothes as opposed to his Paris Saint-Germain or French kit as is usually standard. EA have also promised a guaranteed Ones To Watch special player item for FIFA Ultimate Team to anybody who preorders the Ultimate Edition by August 14.

Kylian Mbappe has taken the mantle of FIFA Cover Star off of Belgium and Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard. The Ex-Chelsea man had an extremely underwhelming first season in Spanish Football making just over 20 league appearances and scoring a solitary goal for Los Blancos. Premier League Winner Virgil Van Dijk was the Cover Star on the Champions Edition of FIFA 20, but EA have opted to keep in uniform across all three editions this year.

Mbappe shared on Twitter that he was “Proud to be the FIFA 21 Cover Star” and that it was a “dream come true.” In an interview on the FIFA 21 website Mbappe expanded his thoughts saying:

Being on the cover of Fifa is a dream come true. from my time at Bondy to Clairefontaine to the world cup, this marks another big milestone. I’ve been playing this game since I was a kid and I am honored to represent a whole new generation of footballers and be in the same group as many other amazing footballers who I now share this honor with.

EA also teased a reveal trailer that’s due to drop on YouTube today (July 23) at 4PM BST/11AM ET/8AM PT.

FIFA 21 Standard Edition is out October 9 (Champions/Ultimate Editions October 6) and is available to pre-order now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
