FIFA 21 Won’t Feature Cross-Play in Any Form at Launch
FIFA 21 won't allow you to play with players from other platforms, neither in the same generation of consoles or different generations.
Having the chance to play with gamers from the platforms other than yours, is a dream that has partially come true over the last few years. While we were expecting to see more of it with the beginning of a new generation of consoles later this year, it seems there are still some disagreements on Cross-play as FIFA 21 won’t feature this option in any format.
According to the latest tweet from the official FIFA Direct account, FIFA 21 won’t feature cross-play nor cross-generational-play when it launches earlier in October. In other words, it means if you have a next-gen console, you won’t be able to play with a friend who plays FIFA 21 on a platform different than yours. Moreover, there would be no cross-generational-play as well, which means if you have a current-gen version of a manufacturer’s console, you won’t be able to play with gamers from the next-gen version of the same console you own.
You won't be able to play across console generations or cross-play in #FIFA21.
However, you will be able to carry over your FUT progression from PS4 to PS5 and Xbox 1 to Xbox Series X. https://t.co/mUqU3zcAud

That being said, FIFA 21 will feature a cross-generational progression system, allowing you to carry over your progress from PS4 to PS5 or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X.
Later on, when the communication department behind the game was asked about how it will impact the leaderboards, the FIFA Direct account clarified that “FUT Champions and Squad Battles leaderboards will be comprised of players from both console generations on a single leaderboard for each mode.”
With Need For Speed Heat turning into the very first EA title to feature cross-play recently, it was expected to see the feature appearing in the other popular games 0f the company such as EA Sports‘ titles, but it seems there’s no plan for adding cross-play to FIFA 21, at least not at launch.
FIFA 21 will be available on October 9 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Next-gen versions will arrive at a later date. It’s worth noting that you can earn a free upgrade to next-gen consoles if you purchase the game on a current-gen console.
