Arika has revealed new details about their next update for Fighting EX Layer. Update 1.3.0 will be launching sometime in mid-July and will add a new character, Area, as well as a spectator mode in online matches. You can check out a video of Area in action below as well as some new screenshots.

Area is one of three characters that have been added into Fighting EX Layer this year. Her and Sharon are releasing free for all players who own the game, while Terry Bogard of SNK's Fatal Fury series will launch as paid DLC. As of right now, Terry Bogard has no official release date. Late last year, Fighting EX Layer got two other free DLC characters in the form of Pullum Purna and Vulcano Rosso.

Spectator mode will allow someone to host a lobby and watch other players fight who join in. The mode has been made with streamers in mind. Along with the new character and spectator mode, players can expect some improvements to netplay as well as UI changes on the game's home menu.

If you're unfamiliar with Fighting EX Layer, it's a successor to the Street Fighter EX games that Arika developed back in the 90s and early 2000s. While the game has no characters from Capcom's Street Fighter series, it does see many of the exclusive EX characters make a return. It's a super solid fighting game that was highly overlooked last year in my opinion.

Fighting EX Layer is available now on PS4 and PC.
