The live action TV series reportedly heading to Xbox One and produced by Microsoft is still somewhat of a mystery - other than its big announcement at last year's E3 and some of the big names behind it, not much else is known for what to expect from Master Chief on the small screen.

However, one new announcement regarding the series does at least seem to point us in a direction on the project, as reports have come through that filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, best known for his gritty sci-fi films like District 9 and the recently-released Elysium, will be taking on the pilot episode of the Xbox One-exclusive TV series. While Blomkamp was originally set to direct the long-gestating Halo feature film that ultimately suffered through development hell and was never made, Blomkamp at least is looking to get some kind of reward for his long wait at getting a crack at the Halo universe.

The Halo TV project was announced last year at E3 2013, and in addition to Blomkamp directing the pilot, also features plenty of big names behind the upcoming series, in particular having the involvement of Steven Spielberg as a producer for the show.
