As teased by Tetsuya Nomura in last week’s Famitsu magazine, Square Enix released a new Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer today. The trailer, which will be featured at Tokyo Game Show 2019, introduces Shinra’s Turks, some minigames, and even some of the iconic Final Fantasy summons in action. Here it is, along with some commentary.

The trailer heavily features new story elements found in this remake, like the “Guardians of Fate” phantom-like things that seem like a typical Nomura idea. It also once again reminds us that Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie will be more than extras this time around. What seems to be a brand new character, a new  Soldier character, is introduced as well.

And of course, we have the Turks: Reno, Rude, and Tseng, with the first two’s boss fights revealed. The iconic church scene also features a new boss fight against Reno. It’s interesting to see that even when recreating certain iconic scenes, Square Enix decided to add new elements to them. We get to see Don Corneo and Honey Bee Inn related scenes as well, just as Nomura talked about in an interview we covered.

Reno is one of my favorite characters in FF7 so I was quite hyped for this trailer. I personally can’t wait for a “Marth is a Smash Bros character” effect to kick in, with people mistakenly thinking Nomura likes Axel so much he put him in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The Japanese dub version of the trailer is also included below for those who like it this way.

Anyway, Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be launching exclusively on PS4 on March 3, 2020. Tokyo Game Show is happening right this week from September 12 to 15. Look forward to our coverage.
