According to gameindustry.biz, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the big winner from last week's UK physical sales market. The game instantly rose to the top of the charts in its first week on the market. It also sold more than double the copies of the previous week's big release Resident Evil 3. Interestingly, physical sales as a whole are up in the UK. Which is surprising given the ongoing, country-wide lockdown. That said, with launches as big as Final Fantasy 7 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons and new gamers jumping into the hobby for something to do, maybe it shouldn't be as big of a surprise.

On the top 10 for last week, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the only new game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and FIFA 20 maintained their spots in the top five. Somewhat surprisingly, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is back in the top five after sitting at 25 in the previous week. Rounding out the top ten are Forza Horizon 4, Resident Evil 3, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Grand Theft Auto 5, and The Last of Us: Remastered. Doom: Eternal, another big recent release continues its slide in the charts, hitting 20th this week.

In total, the number of physical games sold in the UK is up 3% year-on-year. A few weeks ago, that statistic was down 30% year-on-year, which goes to show how much of an impact the coronavirus has had. While many markets are having difficulty keeping sales up, the video game industry is getting tons of new customers buying games. Of course, it will be worth watching those numbers as we move forward and more games are inevitably delayed. Only time will tell what impact that has on the industry.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now on PS4. Be sure to check out all of our coverage from last week.
