Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Gives His Opinion on Nintendo Switch; Talks Lost Odyssey and More
Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi talks about Nintendo Switch, Lost Odyssey and how he deals with a project's cancellation.
Today Mistwalker released a new video starring Terra Battle Director and Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi responding to a few questions from the fans.
Sakaguchi-san was asked to give his opinion about the Switch and its portability, and he mentioned that he finally managed to get his hands on one, since it has been hard to find in Japan for a while. He’s looking forward to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when he goes back to Hawaii.
He feels that, as Nintendo and other console manufacturers say, although capability and design of the hardware are important, hardware is useless without software, and having lots of cool games is what matters.
He heard that Zelda is a very well designed game, and knows that many other creators he knows agree on that. That’s why he’s looking forward to playing Zelda itself, rather than the Switch. That being said, Sakaguchi-san is aware that Nintendo is developing other cool games like Splatoon 2, so he thinks that the Switch is “appealing hardware.”
About the console’s portability he doesn’t know because he has not tried it, and joked on the fact that he couldn’t play it in the ocean because it’s not waterproof, mentioning that he’d like Nintendo to make a waterproof version.
On top of that, Sakaguchi-san talked about his experience of working with novelist Kiyoshi Shigematsu and manga artist Takehiko Inoue on Lost Odyssey, and how he deals with the cancellation of a project.
