Square Enix announced on August 7 that a new Final Fantasy VII Remake guidebook will be launching in Japan, titled the Final Fantasy VII Remake Material Ultimania. The book is coming on October 29, and will include artwork, CG artwork, planning documents, storyboards, liner notes for the music, interviews with the seiyuu, and more.

Many documents used for the development of FF7R will be included in this book. It’s a typical guidebook, like those often released for anime series in japan. You’ve definitely already seen these if you’re a huge otaku.

The cover for the book, featuring Cloud Strife by Tetsuya Nomura, was revealed as well.

Note that a first Utimania book already launched in Japan, titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania. The B5 size, 752 pages book launched on April 28 in the archipel and is also digitally available, meaning it’s easy to import. Though you won’t be able to read anything.

Over on Twitter, Square Enix confirmed this new guidebook will be even bigger in size:

Moreover, it’s important to note the first Ultimania book wasn’t localized yet. When you look at the history of the Final Fantasy franchise and the Ultimania guides, multiple ones did leave Japan in the past though. Meaning the first will probably release outside Japan at some point. And will be followed by this new one.

Final Fantasy VII Remake launched worldwide on PS4 on April 10, 2020, and now topped 5 million copies shipped worldwide. The game will lose its PlayStation exclusivity on April 2021. Tetsuya Nomura said he wants to launch the sequel soon. The other core staff members also gave us some new hints on what’s planned next. The first game’s Classic Mode will also be back and improved in the sequel.
