Leading up to PlayStation’s State of Play presentation this coming Thursday, there is speculation that there will be news regarding Final Fantasy VII or the Final Fantasy VII Remake. This speculation comes from the official Square Enix Twitter account, where earlier today they posted a screenshot of the game where you see Cloud looking at a Chocobo.

Naturally, people began speculating due to the simplicity and oddity of the tweet. While there is not much to back this, Shinji Hashimoto, the brand manager for the Final Fantasy series, quoted PlayStation’s tweet regarding their State of Play presentation with “Oh. You’ve come,” further causing speculation.

Final Fantasy VII Remake was originally announced at E3 2015 with a CGI trailer. The game, since then, has been relatively quiet on new developments. It was planned that the remake was going to be split into episodes with different gameplay mechanics in each episode. Square Enix originally partnered with CyberConnect2 to help develop the game, but the two developers later split ways in 2017 after a disagreement on how the game was developing.

Sony has said that regarding the State of Play on Thursday, we should expect "an extended look at MediEvil, a first look at a new title, and more." It is totally plausible that we receive a new trailer after an almost four-year hiatus, but it could also be just a short tease for E3, even though Sony is officially not going to be present at E3 2019.

PlayStation's State of Play presentation will take place Thursday, May 9 at 3:00pm PST/6:00pm EST.
