Final Fantasy XIII Has a Release Date

In Japan, at least.  But hey, that’s progress, right?  Yesterday at an event in Tokyo, Square-Enix announced the official release date of Final Fantasy XIII in Japan.  That date is December 17,2009.  We weren’t given an exact date for Western releases, but the time period on that was also narrowed down a bit.  They did state that they are planning an “international” release sometime in the Spring of 2010, which could obviously be anytime between March and June of next year.

Square-Enix’s head honcho Yoichi Wada said this at the event: “In the past, its taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this spring.”  He didn’t target either North American or European players in that announcement, so perhaps we’re looking at a close to simultaneous release in those two territories?  With any luck, we won’t have long to wait for an answer.  In the meantime, the Japanese PS3 version of FFXIII is not region-locked so you can import it if that’s your thing, just remember it doesn’t have any English dialog or subtitles.
