Final Fantasy XIV players all over the world have been fidgeting in the past month due to the fact that the alpha of A Realm Reborn has been exclusive to gamers residing in Japan. While the lovely videos released by Square Enix did a lot to keep most happy, actually playing is bound to be a tad different.

Today the publisher officially announced that the global alpha is tentatively scheduled to start next wednesday, November the 28th. Invites will be delivered via email to the chosen ones between those that applied starting on November the 26th.

Of course everything related to the alpha test is and will still be covered by NDA, so it’ll be a while until we’ll see much (sanctioned) information coming out of it.

In the meanwhile, if you missed the first incarnation of the game but plan to try out the second when it’ll be released, you may want to check out my weekly column Final Fantasy XIV: The Story So Far, that will bring you up to speed with the storyline.

Hailing from sunny (not as much as people think) Italy and long standing gamer since the age of Mattel Intellivision and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
