We already knew that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn players currently on the PS3 version of the game would be given the option to upgrade to the PS4 version (that will launch on April 14th) for free, and today Square Enix detailed the process.

  • Players will be able to request the upgrade starting on April 11th.
  • The specific procedure will be published with a follow-up announcement.
  • Those that will request the upgrade won’t be able to play on PS3 anymore.
  • If you want to play on both PS4 and PS3, you’ll have to purchase the PS4 version of the game.
  • If you have more than one PS3 accounts, you can upgrade any or all of them to the PS4 version.

In addition to this the publisher also announced that a special site dedicated to the PS4 version of the game will be opened in early February. At the moment its contents haven’t been unveiled.

We also received some more information about pre-order bonuses and the editions that will be made available. First of all, those that will preorder the game (pre-orders will be available from January 27th) will receive the same preorders included in the PC and PS3 versions of the game: a moogle hat and a Cait Sith minion. A rather short early access is also included, starting from February 13th.

The standard edition is priced at $39.99 while the collector’s edition will cost $79.99. The collector’s edition includes the following:

  • Special box featuring artwork by Yoshitaka Amano
  • Art Book – The Art of Eorzea: A Realm Reimagined
  • Special Soundtrack -The Sounds of Eorzea-
