Previously we knew that the Final Fantasy XIV servers were to be shut down on November the 11th, ten days after the final save that will be carried over to A Realm Reborn.

Apparently during the latest poll 35.4% of respondents expressed the will to continue playing even past that date, despite the fact that further progression of their characters past November the 1st won't carry over to the revamped game.

Square Enix announced today that, due to that, the old servers of Final Fantasy XIV will reopen a few days after November the 11th, and will stay open through the migration process unless monthly logins drop below 30% (in which case they will be closed again). The final save will still happen on November the 1st.

Producer Naoki Yoshida also announced in his 36th Letter From the Producer that the alpha testing of A Realm Reborn is currently scheduled to begin at the end of October, with a focus on stress testing the new server coding and hardware configuration, and on providing feedback on the backbone of the new system.
