Final Fantasy X is ground zero for some of the franchise's most notable milestones as it was the franchise's first iteration on the PlayStation 2, the first to incorporate voice-acting, and the first of the franchise to be given a direct sequel: Final Fantasy X-2.

Scenario Writer on Final Fantasy X (and quite a few other entries in the series) Kazushige Nojima is somewhat optimistic that Final Fantasy X-2 and the upcoming remaster of both games are not the last we will see of the sub-series. "If there’s enough demand, then we may possibly see new developments,” Nojima commented in the book that accompanied the Final Fantasy X|X-2 Remaster's Japanese release,  “I would personally like to see a sequel like X-3.”

Final Fantasy X|X-2 Remaster is being developed by Square Enix and will be released in North America on March 18th, 2014.
