Final Fantasy XV Demo PS4 vs Xbox One Screenshot Comparison: Both Look Great but PS4 Has the Edge

on March 31, 2016 4:08 AM

Today Square Enix released both the PS4 and the Xbox One versions of the “Platinum Demo” of Final Fantasy XV, giving us a chance to take a glimpse at how the game’s visual optimization is proceeding on Sony’s and Microsoft’s platforms.

In order to test the fidelity and definition of both versions of the demo, we took pairs of screenshots trying to reproduce as closely as possible the same angle and time of the day (the demo includes full day/night cycle and weather).

Each screenshot has been saved in lossless PNG to preserve clarity, and below you can see each pair, with the PS4 version first and the Xbox One version following.

As you can see from the screenshots above, both versions look great, even if there’s still quite a bit of aliasing. That said, the PS4 version has a visible edge in terms of definition. This is especially noticeable with distant objects and with inorganic ones like the truck.

That said, the difference isn’t enormous, and there are still about six months before launch, giving the team at Square Enix plenty of time to optimize both platforms.
