Final Fantasy XV releases today in Japan (it’s already “today” there), and to celebrate, Square Enix showcased something interesting and funny, the “Mystery Disk.” If you’re wondering, it’s a pretty crazy and playful internal demo created to celebrate the release of the game.
The video, that you can enjoy below starting at the 02.41:56 mark, shows Noctis exploring a fair ground, showcasing crazy elements like a giant young Prompto and Square Enix’s own President Yosuke Matsuda appearing as a final boss, most definitely souped-up in his fighting abilities (even if he did give Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan President Atsushi Morita a solid whopping at Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Overwatch).
The video also pays homage to the fans in a very visible, displaying tens upon tens of pieces of fan art all over the place.
The stream also showcased some more footage starting at 1:18:14, showing Noctis and his bros preparing for the celebration.
At the bottom of the post you can also see a celebratory drawing by Art Director Yusuke Naora, who left Square Enix at the end of the game’s development, calling the game “the greatest ending” for his work at the company.
And this is indeed the ending of a long rollercoaster ride that lasted over ten years. Many things have changed, and our lives are different as well, but with any ending, comes a beginning. As I shed a tear, and I’m sure I’m not the only one (Just look at Prompto’s face in the screen capture above), it’s time to finally enjoy the game that we have waited so long for.
