Square Enix currently has a bunch of ongoing projects in development for the next-gen platforms, especially for PS5. Project Athia from the developers of Final Fantasy XV, the second part for Final Fantasy VII Remake, and reportedly, Final Fantasy XVI which has entered into the full-development process recently.First of all, it doesn't sound like anything new for those who follow the industry news constantly. As many may remember, it was already rumored before Sony's June event that Square Enix might reveal the next entry in the Final Fantasy series for PS5, but it didn't happen and the Japanese publisher unveiled its new UP Project Athia.With Sony presenting another showcase this week, the rumors around Final Fantasy XVI have been ignited again, but this time around, with more precious clues. The most important reference to Final Fantasy XVI's announcement might be a recently created Twitter account with the same name registered by Square Enix.

Later on, after Sony officially announced its 40-minute showcase around PS5 titles for September 16, the announcement tweet was been retweeted by Shinji Hashimoto, the brand manager for the Final Fantasy series and the producer behind many Final Fantasy games including FF XV. Reportedly, he tends to retweet the events where his games would make an appearance.

Last but not least, the team behind Final Fantasy XIV recently revealed that they have finished the pre-production process for their new project and that they were hiring new developers for this unannounced game which is highly rumored to be Final Fantasy XVI.

On September 16, Sony's next PS5 showcase will likely reveal some new games for the console, while providing more updates on the already announced next-gen games. The event is also expected to reveal the release date and price for PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition, though some rumors and leaks suggest that the consoles will be priced at $499 and $399 respectively.
