First Details for Star Wars Battlefront II Arrive, Space Battles and Single Player Campaign Highlight the New Additions
A new single player campaign, added multiplayer features, and new planets to explore answer player's complaints in the upcoming sequel.
Today at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, EA and DICE announced the first details on the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II.
This time around, Battlefront II will be receiving a single player campaign, something that many fans — myself included — asked for from the original game in 2015. A quick description of the game’s campaign is as follows:
Star Wars Battlefront II introduces a new single-player Star Wars™ story. You play the role of Commander Iden Versio, leader of the Galactic Empire’s elite special forces unit, Inferno Squad. After witnessing the destruction of the second Death Star, Iden’s team embarks on an extraordinary odyssey of revenge, betrayal, and redemption spanning the 30 year gap between Star Wars™: Return of the Jedi™ and Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™. Along the way, she and her companions encounter a cast of Star Wars’ greatest characters. You’ll take control of many of these beloved heroes in an adventure ranging across a series of fantastic planets, including awe-inspiring settings you’ve never seen before.
Potentially the coolest part of this new story is that it has been confirmed to be a part of the official Star Wars canon. If you don’t think that’s a big deal, trust me, it is.
When it comes to multiplayer in Battlefront II, options will also be much greater this time around. All of the notable eras from Star Wars film history — Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, First Order-Resistance conflict — will be playable in BFII and famous hero characters from each of these time periods will also be able to be played. Some of these heroes include Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, Yoda, Darth Maul, and Rey. Each of these heroes will also have customization options of their own to offer players new ways to use each character. They can also all fight one another outside of their own time periods so get ready to have some epic Yoda/Kylo Ren showdowns.
Up to 40 players will be able to play in a match online at the same time this time around. Some of the new locations you’ll journey to include Starkiller Base, Theed, Takodana, Mos Eisley, Endor, Hoth, and more. Additionally, Space Battles will be arriving in Battlefront II which was another highly desired feature that players wanted in the first game.
Lastly, it was announced that Battlefront II will be arriving later this year on November 17, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Those who pre-order the deluxe edition of the game however will be able to play a few days early on November 14.
All in all, it seems like DICE and EA listened to complaints that gamers had with the original Battlefront and have answered most if not all of them with Battlefront II. It’s an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan.
