Coming nearly one year after the release of the original and becoming a YouTube sensation, developer Scott Cawthon lifted the cat (or the animatronic animals) out of the bag early with the surprise release of Five Nights at Freddy's 4 on PC.

After previously being teased for release on Halloween of this year, earlier this month developer Scott Cawthon announced that Five Nights at Freddy's 4: The Final Chapter would instead be released on August 8th, 2015, instead it looks like those looking for one last frightfest with Freddy Fazbear and company are getting the game two weeks earlier than anticipated.

Ahead of its August release, developer Scott Cawthon has released Five Nights at Freddy's 4 early on Steam, as noted by an update on the game's Steam page:

"Ok, so as many of you already know, I'm bad with release dates. The game is finished. :)"

"Enjoy!"

Curiously, the game's final title dropped "The Final Chapter" moniker that it was originally revealed under, though the game's description on its Steam page still refers to the game as the "last chapter," as it explains:

This time, the terror has followed you home.

In this last chapter of the Five Nights at Freddy's original story, you must once again defend yourself against Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and even worse things that lurk in the shadows. Playing as a child whose role is yet unknown, you must safeguard yourself until 6am by watching the doors, as well as warding off unwanted creatures that may venture into your closet or onto the bed behind you.

You have only a flashlight to protect yourself. It will scare away things that may be creeping at the far end of the hallways, but be careful, and listen. If something has crept too close, then shining lights in its eyes will be your end.

While Five Nights at Freddy's 4 seems to bring the story of Freddy Fazbear and company to a close, Cawthon did announce previously that new content will be coming to the game to coincide with Halloween this year.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is available now on PC.
