Universal Pictures' upcoming Five Nights At Freddy's feature film — based on the horror video game franchise of the same name — finally has a release date. As first revealed in a tweet shared on Wednesday by producer Jason Blum, the Five Nights At Freddy's movie is set to premiere on October 27 this very year. While the tweet from Blum reveals only the film's release date, production studio Blumhouse has since announced that the film will have a day-and-date release, and as such will arrive on Universal Pictures' Peacock streaming service on the same day as its makes its theatrical debut.

One would imagine the Five Nights At Freddy's fanbase would be universally delighted to finally have a confirmed release date for the film, which has been in and out of development for several years dating all the way back to 2015. And while some fans are indeed expressing delight — with many particularly thrilled that the film is set to release during the Halloween season — the planned day-and-date release of the film has left a vocal portion of the community more doubtful than delighted.

"Oh my god there goes any hope at it making a Fredzillion dollars," writes Twitter user @Kid_Kinobi. Sharing a similar concern, fellow Tweeter @datdudejuan6 exclaims, "On PEACOCK?? It may be doomed but we shall see". The common sentiment appears to be that the day-and-date release will result in a poor box office performance. A small contingent of the community, meanwhile, is choosing to interpret the day-and-date announcement as some discouraging indication of the film's quality.

As announced earlier this year, the Five Nights At Freddy's feature film will star Matthew Lillard of Scream and Scooby-Doo fame in the purple role of William Afton, with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Bridge To Terabithia) portraying security guard Mike Schmidt. Actress Mary Stuart Masterson will also appear in the film as a currently-unnamed villain.

No promotional material has been released for the Five Nights At Freddy's feature film as yet. Even the film's official title remains a mystery: while producer Blum and several members of the film's cast continue to refer to the project as simply the Five Nights At Freddy's movie, a permit previously pinned to the Film New Orleans website had the project listed under the production title of Bad Cupcake. According to this same permit, filming began on February 1 and officially wrapped on Monday.
