Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 features the same island from the previous season, but there's now an entirely new segment of the island. Faulty Splits was the only location replaced in this update — four new locations with a Japanese aesthetic take it's place.

They're called Mega City, Steamy Springs, Kenjutsu Crossing, and Knotty Nets. This list will be ranking every named location that this season has, including returning locations from the previous season.

12 Breakwater Bay

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Breakwater Bay medieval

Breakwater Bay is a location on the opposite side of all the new content, but that's not what makes it a weaker location. Due to Oathbound weapons like the Shockwave Hammer being removed, the medieval section of the map is less rewarding to drop at.

Breakwater Bay's positioning basically requires you to go to or around the Citadel, which used to be home to many chests with amazing weapons, but without that strength, both of these locations have been nerfed. Breakwater Bay lost it's biggest strengths, which was being a good place to gear up at before heading to the Citafel for Oathbound equipment.

11 Lonely Labs

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Lonely Labs

Lonely Labs is a returning location that has gone through no changes. This means it has the exact same strengths and weaknesses that it had prior. The unique quality that makes this location special is how isolated it is.

The only nearby locations are Brutal Bastion and Slappy Shores, but even Slappy Shores is a fair hike away. This can be a good dropping spot for players that want to start a match at a named location that isn't usually very crowded, but it can take quite some time to get to other areas. This also means takes longer to get higher quality loot.

10 Knotty Nets

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Knotty Nets

The first brand-new location on this list is a small fishing village on a small island just offshore of the main island. It is smallest of the new locations. A location being on the very edge of the map is a bad thing when there are not many movement options due to the Storm Circle.

Knotty Nets is one of the few locations not connected to a road, and a mountain blocks the most direct path to the inner section of the main island. The Storm Circle is slow enough that it's not too problematic, but players are unlikely to travel here unless it's at the very beginning of a match. Locations closer to the center always have players heading to them, while those on the edge like this are only relevant at the start.

9 Brutal Bastion

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Brutal Bastion

Brutal Bastion is the largest and most important location in the ice region, which is very lacking overall. There is not a single named location in the entire left half of the tundra.

There are random building spread out of course, but those don't attract most players. This entire region of the map would seem empty without Brutal Bastion.

8 Shattered Slabs

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Shattered Slaps

Shattered Slabs is a location that contains special rocks. These rocks can be hit to be sent flying. This can be used as a damaging projectile to hit other players, or you can jump on it before it fires to go flying through the air.

Shattered Slabs is placed in an area that gives players many options to travel to when they wish to leave it. You can easily reach Frenzy Fields, the Citadel, and Anvil Square from it. It's a great area to land at near the start of the match, thanks to this adaptability. No matter which direction the Storm Circle shrinks to, you will have a solid follow-up location to head to.

7 The Citadel

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 The Citadel medieval castle

What was once home to many Oathbound chests that contained many of the most powerful weapons has been reduced to mostly just a castle that is on a large hill. It is no longer a good place to grab overpowered weapons early on, which makes its flaws much more apparent. The biggest flaw is most obvious in Zero Build mode. It becomes tedious to travel up to and around nearly the entire location from the outside — there are only a select few easy paths to reach it.

That said, Citadel's placement on the map does still make it an important location. Players who drop at Breakwater Bay first are required to head towards the Citadel's general direction, and there are two other fairly easy to get to locations nearby as well.

6 Frenzy Fields

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Frenzy Fields farmland

If you counted the outer fields as a part of this named location, then this is still the largest location in the game. It is, however, a lot less dense than other locations. Most buildings are small, but the crops offer a lot of places to hide.

Frenzy Fields is one of the closest locations to the new segment of the map. This makes it a great dropping point if you want to stock up on supplies before heading into the new zone, rather than running head first into the locations that many players are likely to drop at. The amount of locations closer to Frenzy Fields has buffed how good of a location it is this season.

5 Kenjutsu Crossing

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Kenjutsu Crossing

This location is a dojo with a nearby gas station. The new motorcycle can allow players to drive from here straight to most of the other new named locations on the map.

Players can find the new katana weapon here. Both the motorcycle and katana offer excellent movement options that help balance out the fact that it's the farthest named location from the center of the map. This means it lacks Knotty Net's problem almost entirely.

4 Slappy Shores

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Slappy Shores factory town

Slappy Shores was previously the largest city in the game, but that title has now been replaced by Mega City. It is, however, still a very large location with many chests.

Just like Frenzy Fields, it has been buffed thanks to the map changes. Previously, there was only one named location to its south which was fairly far away, but now there are four.

3 Anvil Square

Fortnite Chapter 4 Seasons 1 and 2 Anvil Square

The outermost edges of the island are likely to be swallowed by the storm circle, while those closer to the center are likely to stay within the limits longer.

Anvil Square is still the closest location to the center of the map this season, so naturally it has the highest chance of staying within the circle the longest. Anvil Square is also nicely condensed with many chests.

2 Steamy Springs

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Steamy Springs

Steamy Springs is a beautiful town filled with cherry blossom trees and bamboo. It's an excellent location to land at the start of the match due to its proximity to two other locations. It is also a medium size location that will attract an average amount of players.

Mega City is where most players will drop on this side of the map. Dropping in Steamy Springs first gives you a chance to gear up a little before heading to the largest battleground, or you can decide to head the other direction towards Frenzy Fields, which will be more calm. The biggest downside to Steamy Springs is how far south it is, but the motorcycles and katanas that benefit Kenjutsu Crossing also benefit this location too.

1 Mega City

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Mega City holograms Japan

As its name suggests, Mega City is a massive location. Even Slappy Shores only takes up half the same land area. Mega City contains rails that players can slide on to get around faster. There are also several ziplines, motorcycles, and a gust of wind that make it easy to navigate. Most buildings being smaller on the inside helps balance the flow of gameplay here, since most players will either be on the street level of at the very top of buildings.

Mega City is also very detailed with holograms and flashing light signs. It is one of the most visually appealing locations Fortnite has ever made. Mega City is essentially the heart of the new island update in terms of the amount of effort out into it, and it's placement relative to the other locations.
