This year's PAX West event was host of a number of Fortnite announcements, including a new grappling hook item—this tool is one of many additions that will come with the "High Stakes" event for the game's battle royale mode, the most significant one being a new game mode called "The Getaway."

The limited time mode will have teams compete to capture up to four safes in supply drops spread around the map. These safes have a jewel inside, which players will need to take to a getaway van while fending off opponents.

Along with the grappling hook and the LTM are new challenges, a new "Wild Card" skin, and a new safe-themed glider. This event was originally scheduled to launch tomorrow, Wednesday September 5, but has been delayed a full day to September 6 due to a "critical controller issue," Epic announced on Twitter.

Fortnite is playable on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and PS4, which recently received a candid explanation on why it lacks cross-platform play with other consoles.
