Fortnite Officially Adds John Wick for New Crossover Event
Coinciding with the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 in theaters, Fortnite has added yet another crossover event for the new Season 9.
The Avengers may be cool and all, but John Wick can probably take all of them on. Fortnite’s futuristic season 9 is already kickstarting the game’s latest crossover event, tying in with the theatrical release of John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum. The even comes with a limited time mode and a John Wick skin, but like, an actual Keanu Reeves one, not that fake Reaper one we still called “the John Wick skin.”
According to Epic’s website, “Wick’s Bounty” is the name of the limited time mode—if you know the plot of Chapter 3, you can probably gather what the mode entails, as that movie will have what seems to be an infinite number of bounty hunters going after the infamous master assassin the series gets its name from. This mode will have players picking off targets and collecting gold, with “the first one to fulfill the order” winning the match. But get too far ahead, and you’ll be the target that everyone in hunting.
While I doubt it will happen, I would love the game to play a voiceover of Ian McShane saying “excommunicado” every time a player is eliminated.
Challenges will provide players with a handful of John Wick-themed goodies: the Gold Token Back Bling, One Shot Glider, Boogeyman Wrap, and some bonus XP to go with that too. The John Wick Set is available in the in-game store and includes both the John Wick Outfit and the Simple Sledge Pickaxe. To my dismay, the limited time mode doesn’t make the leader as John Wick himself and giving him crazy sharpshooter powers, a la Thanos in the Avengers events.
But players who do want to play as John Wick in a proper John Wick game may want to look into the recently-announced John Wick Hex. As Epic’s blog post mentions, the strategy-action game is available for pre-purchase in the Epic Games Store, which also happens to be running a sale at the moment. John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum is in theaters starting this weekend; check out the short teaser for “Wick’s Bounty” and a couple of screens of the associated goodies below.
