This week saw Fortnite’s new "SMG" and "Compact SMG" added into the game. However, it seems that these weapons are a little too powerful and a lot of fans are unhappy about this. In fact, some fans were even able to show that the SMGs were more powerful than Thanos' Fortnite Infinity Gauntlet, a feat in itself.

The firearms, released in a recent update, have already been nerfed; seeing reductions to their contact damage, accuracy, and fire rate in order to restore balance to the popular battle royale game. The range from which a character can successfully land a hit using the SMG or Compact SMG has also been reduced.

Taking to Reddit, a representative of Epic Games listed a number of alterations that the weapons would undergo due to the Fortnite patch, stating that the company has heard the outcry from fans and admitting that the guns were more powerful than they would have liked. The patch notes are as follows:

  • SMG and Compact SMG accuracy bonus reduced from 35% to 15%.

  • SMG damage reduced from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19.

  • Compact SMG damage reduced from 23/24 to 21/22.

  • SMG fire rate reduced from 13 to 12.

  • Compact SMG fire rate reduced from 11 to 10.

  • SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG damage falloff.

  • Range reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000.

  • Percentage reduced from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%.

  • Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly reduced.

Fortnite’s popularity seems to continue to grow, as it currently earns an average of $2 million a day through its iOS port. The game is also available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Mac.
